PARACHUTE GAMES

This time I'd like to draw your attention to the use of parachute at the lesson of English.
I'm sure you all know how it looks like. It's a circle of colourful segments, sometimes with a small hole in the middle. I've made mine myself. Of course, I could buy a ready-made one, but I decided to have more colours in it to be able to train colours with my pupils later. Maybe it doesn't look that ideal, but it works.

But how can we use it at our lessons? There are TOP 5 ways how to do it:

1. Change the places.
Children stand in a circle and hold the chute. Each one has a word ascribed to him/her (it can be month/seasons/food whatever), you name for ex. 'June', and those whose word is 'June' have to change their place under the chute with somebody else.

2. Find your word.
Again you ascribe a word to each student, you count 1, 2, 3, say for ex. 'vegetables', those whose word is 'vegetables' go down under the chute and have to find their word. The game continues until all the words are over.

3. Touch the word with the ball
Stick the words (for ex. prepositions) to the sectors, throw the ball/balloon on the chute. The task is to move the parachute in such a way so as to make the ball touch the named by you preposition.
Variation: An exercise for revision. You stick the words with the categories to the colourful segments of the chute. You say the words (for ex. strawberries), the pupils have to touch the category Food. You can do the same to tenses. You say the sentence I'm reading a book, they touch Pr. Cont.

4. Run if...
Six people hold the parachute raising it up and making a high wave out of it. The task is to run beneath it without being caught if you...
*wear something red;
*have letter 'r' in your name;
*you've got long hair and so on.

5. Clock time.
You use the parachute as the lock face. Agree with the students where will be the midday, arms are hour hands, legs are minute hands. A student has to show the time lying on the parachute and stretching the legs ad arms in such a way, so that the rest of the class guessed what time is shown. It can be a team contest.
