REVIEW ANY CONCEPT IN GROUPS

Today I'd like to share with you the way I sometimes revise the material with my students at the end of the topic. Usually it evokes a lot of positive emotions, creates basement for contest and is sgreat fun. It is simply not that boring as doing the worksheets.

What is unusual about it, you will ask?

I use SANDWICHES. You read it correctly. But my sandwiches are made of fabric. You can see them in the photo. I use paper plates for them too.

This is a type of group work in which I divide the class into 4 teams. Each gets from me a plate and a piece of bread on which they will put different ingredients if they answer my question or fulfill the task correctly. The winning team must have more ingredients in their sandwich than any other team.
This activity can be used for different age groups. It is the tasks that differ according to their knowledge level.

Before starting the game you can surely revise with your students the names of the ingredients, you may write them on the board too and explain the rules.

I bought my sandwiches on allegro, but if you have no such a possibility, you can also use paper HAMBURGER templates available on the Internet. In this case you'll only have to colour them before using. DOWNLOAD HAMBURGER TEMPLATE

Actually, it may also be a pizza to make which you can use in the similar way. DOWNLOAD PIZZA TEMPLATE

What kind of tasks can be used for this kind of group activity?

All depends on the age of learners. For younger students it can be

  • name the flashcard
  • read the word from the card
  • make up sentence desribing the flashcard
For older students it can be
  • any not very long task from grammar book or even one sentence with multiple choice or open task
  • correcting the errors
  • translation of the sentence
  • word formation
Anything that comes to your mind as long as it won't take them too much time, not to demotivate them. It would be also reasonable to prepare the tasks of different levels, because weaker students are very easily demotivated if they never get the desired ingredient for their sandwich.
All in all, each group makes up to 10 tasks, which helps them to discuss and make up a common decision. Here is also the team work. It would be recommendable so that pupils joined according to their level. In this case you offer them the task corresponding to their level and everyone will be engaged.
Hope, you enjoyed the idea and use it one day!
